Nicolas Cage Says His Mother Inspired Him for “Longlegs”

The actor Nicolas Cage 60, has revealed an unusual inspiration for his role as a satanic serial killer in the horror film “Longlegs – Deadly Bond” . The star revealed that a memory with your mother, the former dancer Joy Birdsang (1935-2021), on which he based the new character.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, Nicolas Cage, who will have an unrecognizable look in the film, said that he was scared as a child when he saw his mother doing skincare.

“I was two years old and I opened the bathroom door [para ver] what she was doing,” he recalled. “For some reason, she turned her face really quickly and stared at me after applying the cream. The whiteness of the cream really scared me.”

The anguish experienced by Cage more than fifty years ago ended up becoming a characteristic linked to the villain of the horror film. According to him, the serial killer “has a strange connection with the color white”.

Nicolas Cage added that Vogelsang’s having been diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia also inspired his performance. “It was a deeply personal performance because I grew up trying to deal with what she was going through. She spoke in terms that were almost poetry. I don’t know how else to describe it,” he said.

“I tried to put that into the character of Longlegs, because he is a tragic entity. He is at the mercy of these voices that are talking to him and forcing him to do these things.”

Starring Nicolas Cage (“Ghost Rider”) and Maika Monroe (“It Follows”), in Brazil, the feature film premieres in theaters on August 29.
