Nigeria: Five dead and at least 15 injured from a truck explosion

A truck explosion that carried scrap metal cost five people on the outskirts of Kano, the most populous city in northern Nigeria, according to the local Police Department. The explosion occurred on Saturday at a scrap metal. Merchants unknowingly collect bombs or ammunition that have not exploded and in some cases are triggered by impact or careless handling. A group of police firefighters went to the site of the explosion to determine how the explosives were triggered, Ibrahim Antamou Bakori, head of the Police in Kano, said. The victims were taken to a hospital, where five people were found to be found and 15 injured were still hospitalized, Bakori said. The truck came from neighboring state Jobe, one of the Nigerian states that have been facing a jihadist uprising for 16 years. The two states are scattered with debris and scrap metal from vehicles and machinery destroyed in jihadist attacks or military operations against them. Source: RES
