O Army gives Nigeria used lethal ammunition against peaceful protesters at a Lagos tollbooth in October 2020, according to a leaked report of the incident seen by Reuters and verified by three sources close to the council that drafted it.
The report described the incident as a “massacre”, said most of the sungivesof the Army sent to the Lekki tollbooth “were not fit and prepared to serve” and recommended prosecuting certain police for their actions.
“At the Lekki tollbooth, sungivesof the Army Nigerians shot, wounded and killed unarmed, helpless, and defenseless protesters, without provocation or justification, while they were waving the Nigerian flag and singing the national anthem, and the manner of attack and gives killing could be described in context as a massacre,” the report said.
Spokespersons for the military, gives Lagos police and government did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Both the military and the police had previously denied having used lethal ammunition.
The incident ended weeks of nationwide protests against brutality.givesof police and unleashed the worst civil unrest in the Nigeria since the return of civilian control in 1999.
