The Federal High Court in Abuja has again postponed the hearing of the Binance financial crimes case pending the provision of an official report on the health of the exchange’s top manager Tigran Gambaryan.

On Tuesday, July 16, the Federal High Court in Abuja stayed for the third time the trial of Nigerian money laundering case against cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

The ruling came after a doctor at the Kuje Correctional Center, where Binance’s head of financial crimes Tigran Gambaryan is being held, once again ignored a court order to prepare a medical report on the top manager’s health and failed to appear to testify in court.

Gambaryan’s lawyers claim that their client’s health is in serious danger and the court no longer has the right to ignore these circumstances.

“Tigran Gambaryan’s health continues to rapidly deteriorate. He suffered from double pneumonia and malaria. At the same time, during his time in prison and custody, he repeatedly complained of numbness in his limbs and back pain,” the statement from Gambaryan’s family press secretary reads.

Justice Emeka Nwite ordered Gambaryan to be taken to Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja for a full medical examination and report on his health within 24 hours. Justice Nwite also issued a warrant for the arrest and search of the Kuje Correctional Centre doctor for contempt of court.

A new trial date for the Binance case has been set for October 11, with the presence of the director of Nizamiye Hospital and the presentation of a full medical report on Gambaryan’s health.

Earlier, Nigerian Information Minister Mohammed Idris tried to refute the claim that the top manager of the Binance crypto exchange is being held in poor conditions and that his health is at risk.
