During the court hearing, a representative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria said that the agency would need more time to provide answers to questions from Tigran Gambaryan's defense:
“We should not be denied our right to a fair trial because rush to justice means no justice.”
The prosecution's case was accepted by Judge Emeka Nwite and he adjourned the hearing to April 22. In turn, the lawyer for a high-ranking Binance employee, Mark Mordy, reminded the judge that his client has been in custody for more than fourteen days. Tigran Ghambaryan pleads not guilty to tax evasion and money laundering in the amount of $35 million.
Previously detained in Nigeria since the end of February 2024, Tigran Ghambaryan filed a claim of violation of his rights by Nigeria's National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribad and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
