Niger’s army announced late Thursday night that he killed Ibrahim Mahamadu or “Bakura”, jihadist leader Boko Haram, however, an information that was denied today by a close associate. Boko Haram, one of the main jihadist organizations in the area, started a war in Nigeria in 2009, killing 40,000 people and displacing another 2 million. Its action then expanded to the Lake Chad Basin, in the border areas of Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon. On Thursday night, Niger’s army assured that he “neutralized the unfortunately infamous Bakouras, an exemplary operating operation” on August 15, on the Silaua island, Lake Chad. The army did not show any evidence and the French agency was unable to verify information from independent sources.
