Nikon more than doubles the burst duration with the Z9

According to the manufacturer, the Nikon Z9 with firmware 1.10 can shoot at 20 frames per second for up to eight seconds while capturing images simultaneously in NEF and JPEG formats. This is five seconds more than the previous firmware version allowed. Of course, the gain depends on many conditions. Data shown by Nikon with a Nikkor Z 50mm F1.8 S lens and a ProGrade Digital COBALT 1700R 325GB CFexpress memory card. For example, burst length will decrease if backup to card in the second slot or automatic lens distortion correction is enabled.

The firmware also adds the ability to toggle Filtered playback criteria on and off in the Playback Menu and fixes a bug that, under certain conditions, would cause the shutter to be out of sync with the SB-5000. This error was observed if the sync speed was set faster than the sync speed, the SB-5000 was controlled via radio AWL using a WR-R10 or WR-R11a wireless controller mounted on the camera, and the flash was not mounted in the camera’s hot shoe.

Nikon Z9 firmware version 1.10 is available as a free download for macOS and Windows computers from the Nikon website.
