A source recently released preliminary specifications for the Nikon Z9 professional mirrorless camera, recently announced by Nikon.
As you know, the camera will use the newly developed multi-layer FX-format sensor (as Nikon calls full-frame sensors) of high resolution. According to the source, the manufacturer tested three sensors: 45-46 Mp, 50 Mp and 60 Mp. Presumably, a sensor with a resolution of 60 megapixels or 50 megapixels was chosen for a serial product, and the latter is more likely. It is claimed to be based on the sensor used in the Sony A1, but with some improvements and even faster performance.
The camera will be powered by a new EXPEED processor, designed with 8K video in mind. By the way, as far as video is concerned, the camera will be able to shoot 8K video at 30 fps and 4K video at up to 120 fps, not inferior in this respect to the Sony A1 model.
When shooting still images in RAW format, 16-bit color representation will be supported. It will be possible to shoot continuously at 20 fps without dimming the electronic viewfinder. The camera is credited with a 5.76 million-dot viewfinder or even 9 million-dot viewfinder that will support a 120Hz refresh rate (possibly at the cost of a resolution reduction).
The sensitivity range is expected to be ISO 64-25600 and expand upwards by another two stops. The expected advantages of the camera also include low noise, wide dynamic range and improved autofocus system. AF tracking mode will be better than Nikon D6 DSLR.
The camera will be equipped with two slots for XQD / CFX Type B memory cards, Gigabit Ethernet, USB-C and Wi-Fi interfaces, as well as an integrated GPS receiver. Its work will be provided by the new battery Nikon EN-EL18x.
The Nikon Z9 is expected to launch in the fall of 2021 and will retail for $ 6,000-7,000. The company has no plans to release the Nikon Z8 model yet.
