The President of the Republic of Cyprus pays a visit to Great Britain, Nikos Anastasiadiswhere, among other things, he is expected to have a meeting with Mr King Charles.
During the meeting, the president of Megalonisos will inform the new king about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and Turkey’s challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean, while of course bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom will also be discussed (remember that England was one of the guarantor powers of Cyprus).
According to a statement by the director of the office of the President of the Republic, A. Iosif, climate change is also expected to be discussed, as well as the consequences of the energy crisis due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The meeting will take place at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at 10.30am UK time. It is the first meeting of the Cypriot President with King Charles III, after he was proclaimed King of Great Britain last September, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
It is recalled that last Wednesday, January 11, Mr. Anastasiades received at the Presidential Palace Princess Anna, who made a visit to Cyprus in order to inspect the British delegation to UNFICYP.
Tomorrow evening, Mr. Anastasiadis will attend a Gala Dinner on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus, during which he will be honored by the United Kingdom Cypriot Federation and the Cross-Party Group for Cyprus in the British Parliament. The event was planned twice in the past, but was postponed due to the pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth.
The event will be attended by a representative of the British government and members of the British Parliament. It is expected to highlight the significant contribution of Cypriot expatriates to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom and to the promotion of the national issue.
