Nina Silva: Brazil needs public policies to combat the pain of hunger

The CNN Expert in Technology, Entrepreneurship and Diversity, Nina Silva commented, this Friday (10), about the data from the hungry in Brazil, with at least 14 million more Brazilians in severe food insecurity in 2022, according to the 2nd National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Nina Silva highlighted racial and gender issues amid inequality in the country, considering that, among the poorest 10% of the Brazilian population, 75% are black.

The number of women in charge of businesses, which ended 2021 at 10.1 million, is also down, being lower than the pre-pandemic mark, as indicated by the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Continuous).

“The great challenge is to understand how the holders of the means of production of the old and new economy are heirs of a system of privileges”, he said, defending the approval of public policies for emergency income, universal basic income and productive inclusion.

“This is the only way to fight the pain of hunger and the hole of misery in our society in a structural way.”
