A mass shooting in the town of Furman, in the state of South Carolinaleft at least nine people injured this Sunday morning (17), according to the State Division of Law Enforcement in South Carolina (SLED).
“SLED agents are leading an investigation into a shooting at Cara’s Lounge in Hampton County this morning, where at least nine people were shot,” the division said in a press release. “Right now there are no deaths.”
The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office has asked SLED to investigate the shooting and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Furman is about 80 kilometers north of Savannah, Georgia.
This weekend saw two shootings in South Carolina, with no deaths in either incident as of Sunday afternoon. The other mass shooting took place at the Columbiana Center mall in Columbia. Fourteen people were injured and one person was arrested.
There was also another shooting in Pittsburgh earlier this Sunday, which left two people dead and several others injured. Both victims were under the age of 18.
All three shootings follow an upsurge in gun violence that has plagued the US in recent weeks. To date, there have been more than 130 mass shootings since the start of the year, according to the Armed Violence Archive.
