Video game company Nintendo announced today (8/11) that it will develop a live-action film based on its game “The Legend of Zelda”.
The film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, representative director and fellow at Nintendo, and Avi Arad, president of Arad Productions Inc., producer of several films in the Spider-Man universe, most recently with the animation “Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse”. .
According to the official note released by the company, in addition to being produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., the film will be directed by Wes Ball (from the “Maze Runner” franchise and the sequel “Planet of the Apes: Reign”) and will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., which will also distribute the film.
The plot has not yet been released, but the script will be by Derek Connolly, from the “Jurassic World” franchise films.
Miyamoto wrote a post on X (formerly Twitter) confirming the production: “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda’ film for many years with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many highly successful films.”
“I asked Avi-san to produce this film with me and we have now officially started development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take some time to complete, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

The game series revolves around the various incarnations of the elf-like Link and Princess Zelda, a magical princess from the lineage of the goddess Hylia, as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon.
