Nissan’s partnership with the Envision Group as global automakers are rushing to secure the supply of batteries, the most expensive component of electric vehicles, amid growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe. Called the Nissan EV36Zero, Envision AESC will fund the construction of a 9 GWh plant near its Sunderland plant, which is already supplying batteries for the Nissan Leaf EV. The new plant will produce as many batteries per year as needed for 100,000 Nissan electric vehicles. In the future, the plant can be expanded to 35 GW · due to investments from a Chinese company.
