No cases of the Ômicron variant have been identified in the US, says CDC

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that, to date, no case of the Ômicron variant has been identified on North American soil.

In a statement this Friday (26), the CDC said that any case would be quickly identified through the country’s variant surveillance system.

“We are working with other public health partners, in the United States and around the world, to learn more about this variant as we continue to monitor its path,” the agency said.

“The CDC continuously monitors the variants and the surveillance system reliably detects new cases of Covid-19 in the country. We hope that Ômicron will be identified quickly, should it appear here in the US,” he added.

The agency recommends that people follow prevention strategies such as wearing a mask in closed public settings in areas of significant or high community transmission, washing their hands frequently, and physically distancing themselves from others.

The CDC also recommends that all people age 5 and older protect themselves from Covid-19 by being fully vaccinated and encourages a booster dose for those who are eligible.
