No holidays for the British. And it is not an invitation, but an obligation

That the British do not think about booking holidays and those who want to go to the UK pay attention to the rules. It is not an invitation, but a warning that comes from the British government. Transport Minister Grant Shapps urged citizens not to book summer holidays yet, either in the country or abroad. The priority was given instead by Prime Minister Boris Johnson: “Continue the vaccination campaign and accelerate it as much as possible”.

In Britain, where there were still 100 deaths a day as of 10 February, 13 million people have already received their first dose of vaccine: 25% of adults and over 90% of over 75s.

These numbers, however, are not enough to allow free travel and to open borders. As the Minister of Transport said, before traveling, “they must all be vaccinated”. Like the Italian regions, the British government is also thinking of a vaccination passport to allow travel.

Obviously all tourism operators worried by the words of the government. A spokesperson for the British Association of Travel Agents responded immediately: ‘If we wait for the vaccination campaign to be completed before we allow people to go abroad, we will lose another summer season, something the travel industry cannot afford ”.

The tourism industry itself fears over the restrictions on entry coming from Monday to prevent new variants of Covid from entering the country. For those arriving from the 33 blacklisted countries or who have stayed there for two weeks, whether they are British citizens or not, there is an obligation to stay in a hotel for at least ten days and at the expense of the traveler: 175 pounds a night which makes 2000 euros in ten days. And not only this.

You must submit a negative test done within 72 hours before your flight and take two more, one on the second day and the other on the eighth day of arrival. The traveler must pay them all. If it is positive, the quarantine is extended by another ten days and he has to pay for the extra nights in the hotel. For those who do not respect the rules, there are fines of up to 10,000 pounds, for those who violate the quarantine, and up to 2,000, for those who do not swab. Those who do not claim to come or have passed through the blacklisted countries that include South Africa and almost all of Latin America risk imprisonment.

There is no Italy. For us there remains the need for a negative test within 72 hours of the flight, ten days of quarantine that are halved with a negative swab on the fifth day. The two tests are added on the second and eighth day, however mandatory and if the second is positive the quarantine will be extended.
