Record snowfall was recorded at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday (14/07) as temperatures soared to 34.4C creating a chilling contrast. The National Weather Service office in Philadelphia/Mount Holly recorded the daily snowfall total over the Pennsylvania airport that afternoon noting that it broke the old record of July 14th set in 1870. The snow trail recorded was actually hail, that fell during a thunderstorm, the weather service said. “Since hail is freezing precipitation, this is measured as ‘trace’ snow in our climate reports,” NWS Mount Holly said in a social media post, noting that this is a “record daily snowfall report.” According to nypost the strange weather phenomenon is rare, but not unheard of.
