This may indicate that Microsoft has finally simplified the complicated and sometimes confusing names of Windows updates. There have been many variations of these over the years, including the Creators Update for Windows 10, Windows 10 May 2021 Update, and Windows 10 21H2.
Microsoft initially considered naming its updates after animals or people, but settled on a combination of numbers and letters. Recent rumors have reported that Microsoft has abandoned plans to release an annual Windows 11 update called “23H2” in 2023. Instead, the software giant is prioritizing the steady rollout of new features throughout the year. Microsoft recently changed the Windows Insider testing program and will be adding more experimental features ahead of time. This could lead to Microsoft returning to the three-year Windows release cycle, with Windows 12 arriving in 2024.
Either way, the next major update for Windows 11 is set to release on September 20th. Windows 11 22H2 (or Windows 11 2022 Update) will include a number of new improvements, including folders in the Start menu, drag and drop on the taskbar, and new gestures and animations.
