Finally, the obligation to use the mask outdoors, the lifting of the traffic ban: the France will find an almost normal life again thanks to the faster improvement, than expected, of the health condition.
From 20 June at 06.00 local time in the morning, the French will therefore be able to leave the application for the first time without restrictions, eight months ago, the first traffic ban, in order to deal with the second wave of the epidemic, broadcasts the APE-MPE.
This release shall take place before the scheduled date of 30 June, because “the situation is improving faster than we hoped”, announced today (16/6) the Prime Minister Jean Castex.
France is following the example of various European countries, such as Belgium, while others, including Germany and Spain, are moving towards a phasing out of mask use.
“It is normal that we adjust our measures,” explained Castex, noting that the general obligation to use the mask will be lifted outdoors, while it will remain in force indoors (shops, offices, transport…).
Outside, however, citizens should wear the mask “when they gather and when they are in a crowded place, in a queue, in a market or in the stands of a stadium,” according to the French prime minister.
Castex: Keep going, keep getting vaccinated
Jean Castex made the announcements four days before the regional elections, which are expected to be difficult for the presidential majority of Emanuel Macron. The French Prime Minister defended the correctness of the exit strategy from the crisis, which was announced in late April and which “some found too short and not prudent enough”.
In addition, he welcomed the infections that have dropped to an average of 3,200 daily cases over the past seven days, the lowest level since August 2020, and that less than 2,000 people are being treated in intensive care units.
This clear improvement is explained, according to him, by the “mobilization of the French”, as well as by the “success of the vaccination campaign” with more than 30 million people receiving a first dose.
“We must continue, we must continue, we must continue to be vaccinated,” he said. over 50 years of age and adults with underlying diseases to have received a first dose.
