Austrian company Noctua, specializing in the production of cooling systems and components for them, announced that it will ensure compatibility of the NH-U12A cooling system with Intel Alder Lake-S processors.

For these processors, the manufacturer chose the LGA 1700 version. As you can see in the illustration, the width of the Alder Lake-S processors does not differ from the Comet Lake-S, but they are longer in length. The 9.5mm difference could make some of the existing cooling systems incompatible with the new series of processors. At the same time, models with a large footprint can be made compatible with mount upgrades. In such cases, manufacturers often offer the appropriate kits for free.

Considering that the NH-U12A cooling system is compatible with LGA 2066 processors, which are even larger than the LGA 1700 (52.5 x 45 mm), the manufacturer’s decision to issue an upgrade kit for it looks quite logical.
