After leaving Petrobras, General Joaquim Silva e Luna positively evaluated the appointment of José Mauro Ferreira to replace him as president of Petrobras.
Still in charge of the state-owned company, Silva e Luna told CNN that Ferreira’s appointment is “good” and “technical” and will “guarantee continuity of the company’s work”. After the appointment of José Mauro’s name by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, on Wednesday night, the general and his deputy spoke by phone. In the conversation, according to Silva and Luna, the two agreed to talk about the succession.
“I know José Mauro from other times. I already had a connection with him since the days of Itaipu and in that period here at Petrobras as well. We are friends. It is a good choice, a technical indication,” Silva e Luna told CNN.
The general is still expected to stay up to two weeks in charge of Petrobras, a time that includes the conclusion of the Eligibility Committee’s opinion on the nominees and the Ordinary General Meeting on the 13th, and said he is in no hurry to leave the state company.
“In two weeks at the most, I should finish my task. I’m in no hurry to run out of here, I’ll talk to my successor and deliver what I have to deliver. At that time, self-love has to be put aside.” Despite denying grievances with the way he was fired from the state-owned company, the general said he leaves with a “feeling of unfulfilled duty” since he had one more year of his term in office ahead of him.
