The film “I’m Still Here” and the actress Fernanda Torres 59, were nominated for the Golden Globes 2025 and with the news, several memes were produced on social media. Walter Salles’ production competes in the categories of Best Non-English Language Film and Best Actress in a Drama.
The achievement marks the country’s return to the award after 20 years. The last time a Brazilian production was nominated in the first category was in 2005, with “Motorcycle Diaries” (2004), also by Salles.
Fernanda Torres’ nomination comes 25 years after her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, 95, achieved the same feat for “Central do Brasil” (1998).

Directed by Walter Salles, the film is an adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s autobiographical book about his own father, Rubens Paiva, a federal deputy who was arrested and killed during the military dictatorship in 1971, in Rio de Janeiro.
In the plot, the author’s mother, Eunice Paiva, needs to change her routine completely after her husband is exiled. The housewife is forced to become a human rights activist after the disappearance of Rubens Paiva.
