The strikes came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there would be “severe” retaliation for an attack on the Lebanese Hezbollah movement that killed 12 children on Saturday in the annexed Golan Heights. Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, Hamas and Syria, has a strong presence on Syrian territory, with members fighting alongside Damascus’ forces. “Israel targeted two Syrian air defense bases in Deraa province with missiles,” noted the NGO.
