They look like a terrorist act the leaks in the two major undersea pipelines natural gas Nord Stream 1 and 2 in the Baltic and require an investigation in cooperation with a number of countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today. He even noted that Russia suspects the involvement of a foreign state, without however naming a specific country.
“It is very difficult to imagine that such a terrorist act could be carried out without the involvement of a state” noted the representative of the Kremlin, again asking for “an urgent investigation. This is an extremely dangerous situation,” he reiterated after Russia launched an investigation into international terrorism yesterday.
Asked about the possibility of conducting an international investigation with the participation of other countries, the Kremlin representative noted that “many issues are raised” about it, mainly due to “the lack of communication and the reluctance of many countries to communicate” with the Russia.
The European Union is investigating the leaks that occurred on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in the Baltic and has announced that it suspects sabotage.
Citing three imgs, US news network CNN reported that European security officials had spotted Russian naval support ships and submarines not far from where the pipeline leaks occurred. Asked to comment on this CNN report, Peskov noted that there was a much larger NATO presence in the region.
NATO is worried

All currently available information indicates that this is the result of deliberate, reckless and irresponsible acts of sabotage. These spills cause shipping hazards and significant environmental damage. We support the investigations being conducted to determine the origin of the damage.
As allies we are committed to preparing to deter and defend against the coercive use of energy and other hybrid tactics by states or non-state actors.
