International service NordVPN reported that many US users are concerned about the prospect of paying for online purchases with cryptocurrency.
The VPN service provider conducted a survey among its customers to find out the level of awareness of respondents about cryptocurrencies. More than 1,000 people took part in the survey. According to the study, seven out of ten respondents (68%) are aware of the risks associated with crypto assets, such as hacking marketplaces, accounts, and fake token scams. Approximately the same number of respondents said they have an idea of what cryptocurrencies are.
Many of those who said they were aware of the risks expressed concern that cryptocurrencies will become one of the main means of payment in online stores in the future.
However, the remaining 32%, NordVPN analysts say, said they had little knowledge of the dangers associated with digital currencies. And this, according to experts, is a problem: too large a percentage of citizens not only do not realize the risks of crypto-investments, but are generally poorly aware of security measures on the Internet.
Last week, analytics company Chainalysis published a report on cryptocurrency scams for 2021. According to the report, the ransomware earned about $602 million.
