North Korea accuses Biden of “hostile” diplomacy

THE North Korea today accused US President Joe Biden of pursuing a “hostile” policy and denounced “untrue” US diplomacy, threatening retaliation.

The remarks came after President Biden told Congress Wednesday that he would use “diplomacy as well as serious deterrence” to curb Pyongyang’s nuclear ambitions.

On Friday, the White House clarified that the American president is in favor of a “realistic” diplomatic approach.

Negotiations between the US and North Korea are stalled after the failure of the second summit between former US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi in 2019. Since coming to power, before For 100 days, Biden has not addressed this issue at length.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement broadcast today by the KCNA agency that Joe Biden made a “serious blunder” with his “outdated” position towards the country.

“His statement clearly reflects his intention to pursue a hostile policy toward North Korea, as the United States has been doing for more than half a century,” said North Korean Foreign Ministry official Kwon Jung Goon.

“The so-called ‘US diplomacy’ is an untrue label aimed at covering up their hostile actions and the announced ‘deterrence’ is merely a means to pose a nuclear threat to the DPRK,” he added.

“Now that the central axis of the new US policy on the issue of North Korea is clear, we will be obliged to take the necessary measures,” he stressed.

On Friday, the White House reaffirmed that its goal remains “the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

US policy will see “a gradual, practical approach, open to diplomacy” with North Korea, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Friday.

In favor of a “realistic” diplomatic approach, in close consultation with South Korea and Japan, the White House spokeswoman declined to comment on possible initiatives being considered, while distancing herself from previous US governments.

“Our policy will not focus on seeking a big deal,” he said, noting that there was a difference between Donald Trump and his approach.

“However, it will not be based on strategic patience either,” she added, referring to the doctrine of Barack Obama’s presidency.

In a separate statement, also released by the KCNA, the North Korean Foreign Ministry accused the United States of insulting Kim Jong Un and his policy against the new coronavirus, according to a statement issued by the US State Department on April 28.

A spokesman for Ned Price had criticized human rights abuses and the harsh measures taken by North Korea against the COVID-19 pandemic, “one of the most oppressive and totalitarian states in the world,” he said.

“The ‘human rights issue’ raised by the United States is a political maneuver aimed at destroying the ideology and social system of the DPRK,” the North Korean foreign ministry said.
