THE North Korea officially requested that the joint military exercises conducted by the USA and the South Korea the last period of time.
“The situation on the Korean peninsula and the surrounding area has entered a phase of serious confrontation (…) due to the continued and reckless military actions by the US and South Korea,” KCNA said in a related statement.
The US and South Korean air forces started today large-scale gymnasiums, with 24-hour simulated attacks. About 240 military aircraft are participating in the Vigilant Storm exercise, which is expected to end on Friday.
The 12-day Hoguk 22 South Korean military exercise, which included amphibious landing simulations, also ended on Friday.
Raising the tone, KCNA broadcasts that Pyongyang considers that the scenario of a US nuclear attack against it has entered the final phase, underlining that North Korea is ready to defend its sovereignty by any means.
Washington and Seoul believe North Korea is close to its first nuclear weapon test since 2017.
