North Korea conducts fourth missile test in less than a month

A North Korea carried out what is believed to be its fourth missile test of the year on Monday, firing a projectile into the ocean off the east coast of the Korean peninsula, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea.

The Japanese prime minister’s office revealed in a tweet that North Korea had launched a “possible ballistic missile”.

This Monday’s alleged test follows two last week and one the week before, as Pyongyang continues to develop a missile program.

North Korea claimed to have a hypersonic missile successfully tested on January 5 and 11, according to the central Korean state news agency.

Pyongyang also tested two alleged short-range ballistic missiles from a wagon on January 14.

In a recent statement released by KCNA, a spokesperson defended the country’s right to bolster its weapons, saying its “recent development of a new type of weapon was only part of its efforts to modernize its national defense capability.”
