Top North Korean officials discussed reviewing coronavirus restrictions on Sunday, as they assessed the situation of the country’s first recognized Covid-19 outbreak was “improving”, state media reported.
A Politburo meeting led by leader Kim Jong Un “made a positive assessment of the situation of the pandemic that is being controlled and improved across the country and discussed the issues of stabilizing and continuously improving the overall anti-epidemic situation,” the KCNA news agency said. .
North Korea reported no new deaths among fever patients for the second day in a row and said an additional 89,500 people had symptoms of fever on Sunday. The number is down from the nearly 400,000 recorded about 11 days ago.
The isolated country has been battling an unprecedented wave of Covid-19 since it declared a state of emergency and imposed a nationwide lockdown this month, fueling concerns about a lack of vaccines, medical supplies and food.
Efforts to strengthen anti-epidemic measures are being taken across North Korea, including collecting rainwater, testing virus-resistant drugs and establishing quarantine sites, KCNA said.
