North Korea fired a ballistic missile into the sea east of the Korean Peninsula on Friday, the South Korean military said.
It is the most recent of unprecedented number missile tests conducted by North Korea this year.
Japan’s Coast Guard said North Korea had fired what could be a ballistic missile and issued a warning of a possible second missile.
North Korea fired the missile a day after the South Korean Ministry of Defense announced that it had successfully carried out a test flight of a space launch vehicle of solid propellant.
On Monday, five North Korean drones crossed into South Korea, prompting the South Korean military to scramble fighter jets and attack helicopters to try to shoot them down, in the first intrusion since 2017.
Not counting Friday’s one, North Korea has fired about 70 ballistic missiles about 38 times this year, Yonhap news agency said, including about eight intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).
