North Korea has resumed launching balloons carrying garbage bags towards the South, some of which have landed in South Korea, the South Korean military said on Thursday (5). See photos in the gallery above.
More than 400 balloons have been launched since Wednesday (4) and about 20 have been discovered landing in areas north of Seoul, according to the military.
The balloons contained trash but no material that posed a safety risk, they added.
North Korea first sent balloons carrying trash and even manure in May in retaliation for a campaign by defectors and activists in the South who sent bags filled with anti-North Korea leaflets along with money and flash drives.
The country led by Kim Jong-un has reacted angrily to such campaigns because it sees the propaganda messages as a threat to its control, experts and South Korean officials said.
