North Korea has severed diplomatic ties with Malaysia

North Korea has said it will cut diplomatic ties with Malaysia over its extradition to Kuala Lumpur to be tried for money laundering, North Korea has said.

He also warned that the US would “pay the price” Malaysian Supreme Court ruling last week dismissed a North Korean businessman’s appeal against his extradition decision in the United States, according to the official KCNA news agency.

The North Korean Foreign Minister, after “Serious” development, announces “complete severance of diplomatic relations with Malaysia”. According to a press release issued by the ministry, the relationship between Pyongyang and Washington is described as “the most hostile on this planet”.

Moon Chol-myung, who lives in Malaysia, is accused of supplying illicit luxury goods purchased in Singapore to Pyongyang and engaging in money laundering in violation of UN sanctions, according to South Korea’s Yon News Agency.

North Korea counters that the businessman was engaged in “legitimate commercial activities”.

The extradition comes just days after the new US administration failed to open a channel of communication with North Korea.

Pyongyang calls project “cheap trick” and stated that he would not accept any contact with the US government if Washington did not fulfill the conditions it had set.

The chances of a resumption of talks between the two countries on North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and the conclusion of a bilateral peace agreement seem slim at the moment.
