North Korea: Recognized Luhansk and Donetsk in Ukraine as independent states

THE North Korea recognized the two regions occupied by Russia in 2014 in Ukraine -the Luhansk and Donetsk– as independent states, with local leaders hoping for future cooperation with Kim Jong Un’s country.

Characteristically, in a post on his Telegram account, the leader of Donetsk Denis Pussin he said he hopes to have a “fruitful cooperation” and good trade relationship with North Korea.

The Donetsk “embassy” in Moscow posted a photo of a ceremony in which North Korean Ambassador Shin Hong-choi presented a “certificate of recognition” to Donetsk “ambassador” Olga Makeyeva.

The North Korean embassy in Moscow confirmed that it recognized the independence of both regions, according to Russian news agency TASS.

It is noted that Pyongyang had also expressed its support to Russia for the annexation of Crimea in 2014, while North Korea is only the third countryafter Russia and Syria, which recognizes “People’s Democracies” of Donetsk and Luhansk.
