North Korea says it has recovered South Korean military drone, according to state media

North Korea said it discovered the remains of a crashed South Korean military drone, state media KCNA reported on Saturday (19).

KCNA released several photos of the drone and said it was found on October 13. The company said the shape of the drone is similar to one that drops leaflets over Pyongyang and that it was the same model that the South Korean military recently displayed during a military exercise in Seoul on October 1.

South Korea’s government has declined to say whether such drones were flown and, if so, whether they were flown by its military or civilians. The country said commenting on the North’s allegation would be drawn into a ploy.

Tensions between the Koreas have risen since the North began sending balloons carrying trash across the border to the South in late May, with Seoul responding by restarting propaganda broadcasts over loudspeakers, infuriating Pyongyang.

North Korea has stepped up its hostile rhetoric in recent days, accusing the South’s military of flying drones over its capital on three days this month and threatening “a horrible disaster” if it detects another drone in its skies.
