North Korea says it never sold weapons to Russia, according to state media

Earlier this month, a US official told CNN that Russia is buying millions of rockets and artillery shells from North Korea for use in Ukraine. The New York Times first reported on the alleged purchases.

North Korea condemned the US “for recklessly spreading the rumor against the country to pursue its basic political and military objective” and said the US should keep its mouth shut, the agency said.

State media quoted a press release from the deputy director-general of the General Secretariat for Equipment of the Ministry of National Defence, but did not provide the official’s name.

North Korea said the “development, production, possession of military equipment, but also its export and import are legal rights peculiar to a sovereign state, and no one has the right to criticize it.”

However, the statement said:

“We have never exported weapons or ammunition to Russia before and we do not plan to export them.”
