United States national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the United States will discuss the matter with the United Nations Security Council.
Kirby called North Korea's weapons shipments to Russia a “significant and concerning escalation” and highlighted that the United States will impose additional sanctions against those who facilitate arms deals.
“Our information indicates that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea recently supplied Russia with ballistic missile launchers and several ballistic missiles,” Kirby reported, using North Korea's official name.
In recent days, he said, “Russian forces launched at least one of these North Korean ballistic missiles into Ukraine,” adding that the device appeared to have hit open ground.
Kirby stressed that Iran has not delivered short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, but Washington believes Russia intends to purchase missile systems from Iran.
Moscow has relied heavily on Iran to receive drones and other weaponry for use against Ukraine.
