North Korea: The country has launched another missile, possibly a ballistic missile

LAST UPDATE: 10.00

North Korea launched a ballistic missile today, the South Korean military said three days before the inauguration of new South Korean President Yoon Suk-geol, who has vowed to pursue a tougher policy toward Pyongyang.

The South Korean military said North Korea fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) into the sea off its east coast today at about 8:07 a.m. Greek time from Sinpo, where Pyongyang maintains submarine equipment and equipment.

The Ministry of Defense of Japan estimated in a post on Twitter that it may be a ballistic missile. The state-run NHK network, citing government sources, reported that the rocket landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

North Korea fired another missile into the sea off its east coast on Wednesday, as Pyongyang pledged to deploy its nuclear forces “at full speed.”

The United States has said North Korea is preparing for the Pungye-ri nuclear test site and may be ready to test there as early as this month.

“Instead of accepting calls for dialogue, (North Korean leader) Kim Jong-un’s regime seems to be preparing for a tactical nuclear test. The timing will depend mainly on when the underground tunnels are ready and the technology needed.” , commented Leif-Eric Isley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul.

“A seventh nuclear test, the first since September 2017, will exacerbate tensions on the Korean Peninsula, increasing the risk of miscalculations and communication errors between the Kim regime and the new Yun government,” he added.

Yoon will be sworn in on Tuesday, while US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit South Korea and meet with him on May 21.
