Air travel between North Korea and China resumed this Tuesday (22), after Pyongyang closed its airspace due to Covid-19 since 2020.
Air Koryo Flight JS151 from Pyongyang, capital of North Korea, arrived at Beijing PEK Airport today at 9:17 am local time, according to the Beijing Capital International Airport website.
This is the first known international commercial flight to leave North Korea since the country closed its borders in January 2020 after deciding to cut almost all contact with the outside world to prevent passengers with coronavirus from entering the country.
North Korean flag carrier Air Koryo’s resumption of scheduled flights between China and the DPRK was approved by Chinese authorities amid changes to Chinese travel restrictions in January, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, scheduled flights between North Korea and Russia are expected to resume on Friday, August 25, for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, as previously reported by CNN.
