North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the inspection test of a new surface-to-sea missile on Wednesday, North Korea's KCNA news agency said.
North Korea fired multiple missiles from its east coast on Wednesday, South Korea's military said. It was the latest multi-missile test in recent weeks, ahead of South Korea's general election in April.
Kim said South Korea is violating the North's sovereignty by insisting on a “Northern Limit Line” (LLN), the maritime demarcation line between the two Koreas, according to state media KCNA.
Kim gave orders to reinforce military readiness in waters north of Yeonpyeong Island west of the Korean peninsula in the LLN region, KCNA said.
“No matter how many lines there are in the sea… if the enemy invades the maritime border, it will be considered a violation of our sovereignty and a provocation of force,” Kim said, according to KCNA.
The new missile, called Badasuri-6 or “sea eagle-6” in Korean, flew above the sea and hit the desired target, KCNA added.
Kim also inspected a “key” munitions factory, KCNA said.
