Northeasterner, Isadora Cruz talks about playing a carioca: “Far from me”

The actress from Paraíba Isadora Cruz 26, will interpret Roxelle the first character from Rio de Janeiro in her career, in the soap opera “Come Back” — which will premiere on September 30, replacing “Family Is Everything”.

During the soap opera’s press conference, which was attended by CNN the artist spoke about the experience of living something so far from her reality. “This is a chance that is often given to actors from the Southeast, to represent people from the Northeast. We don’t see the opposite path very often”, reflected Isadora.

“A person from the Northeast playing someone from the Southeast is something rare. It has been a great joy to see that they believed in me for this, that they believed that I, as a person from Paraíba, have the ability to play someone from Rio,” added the actress.

According to Isadora Cruz, for a long time, the job market in which she operates often placed actors in boxes based on their accents.

Since returning to television in 2022, the Paraíba native has only played characters from the Northeast. In “Sea of the Backlands” (2022), played the protagonist Candoca, a young woman from the backlands with the dream of becoming a doctor. In “Warriors of the Sun” — a soap opera scheduled to premiere on Globoplay in 2025 — played Rosa, in a plot inspired by the stories of Lampião and Maria Bonita.

“It was very important for me to return to television telling stories from the Northeast, using my accent. Now it is very important to play a Carioca and get out of that Northeastern box,” said the actress, stating that it is a great challenge.

In “Volta Por Cima”, Roxelle will be an ambitious waitress, who falls in love with Chico (Amaury Lorenzo), the fiancé of Madá (Jéssica Ellen). “She is the character furthest from me,” assures Isadora.

To face this challenge, the actress said she studied a lot and understood that Roxelle requires lightness and spontaneity. Because of this, the actress tried not to maintain perfection in her Rio accent. “I think that sometimes holds me back,” she explained.

On the other hand, the way she speaks will be essential for Isadora to access this new personality and mannerisms. “I think that the accent, so different from mine, is helping me to reach a person who is far from me,” she assured.
