Northern Macedonia: 45 bodies of victims of accident in Bulgaria transported to Skopje

The 45 bodies of the victims of the recent tragic accident in Bulgaria were transported to Skopje shortly before noon by a traveling bus from Northern Macedonia that was engulfed in flames.

They were transported from Sofia by two military transport aircraft.

The President of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pentarovski, the Prime Minister, Zoran Zaef, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, were present at the Skopje airport during the transfer of the bodies.

The bodies were received by relatives of the victims and immediately afterwards they were transported to the cemeteries where the funerals took place.

All 45 victims of the accident, including 12 children, were citizens of Northern Macedonia.

Specialists and professors of Forensic Medicine from Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia participated in the multi-day process of identification of the victims, using the DNA method, in Sofia.

The accident happened in the early hours of November 23rd on the “Struma” (Strymonas) highway in SW Bulgaria, 40 km from Sofia, when the bus was returning from Istanbul.

The investigation into the causes of the accident continues and will last all the following months.
