A second group, consisting of 44 Afghan refugees, arrived in the afternoon at Skopje airport, at Northern Macedonia. These are Afghan nationals who worked for international organizations in Kabul and for members of their families, according to the APE BPE.
Immediately upon arrival they were transferred to hotels in an area outside the capital. They will remain in Skopje until their transfer to their final destination country.
The first group of Afghan refugees, consisting of 149 people, temporarily hosted by Northern Macedonia, had arrived in Skopje on August 31st.
The Government of Northern Macedonia has announced that the country will temporarily host a total of 780 Afghan refugees.
According to the neighbor’s government, these are refugees whose lives would be cut short danger if they remained in Afghanistan.
From the countries of the region, apart from Northern Macedonia, Afghan refugees are still hosted by the Albania and Kosovo.
