Northern Macedonia: The Basketball Federation restores the term “Macedonian” in its name

The Basketball Federation of Northern Macedonia has announced the launch of procedures for changing its official name, restoring the term “Macedonian” to its name. Specifically, as stated in today’s announcement of this federation, the new President of the Federation, Tom Glavchev, during a recent meeting of the Board of Directors proposed the renaming of the Federation either to a “Macedonian basketball federation” or a “basketball federation”. The proposal was accepted by positive comments from the present members of the Board of Directors, who unanimously agreed to launch the process of changing the name to “Macedonian Basketball Federation”, thereby raising questions about the compliance of the Federation with the terms of the Prespa Agreement. The Basketball Federation was one of the first sports federations in the country to adapt to the Prespa Agreement, abandoning the previous name “Macedonian Basketball Federation” and adopting the official name “Basketball Federation”.
