Norway: A wooden bridge collapsed while two cars were crossing

Collapsed wooden bridge in Norway, when a truck and a car were crossing it. The first got stuck in an almost vertical position on an elevated part of it and the second plunged into the water, with the drivers rescued and out of danger, according to the AP.

The driver of the truck was rescued by helicopter, while the driver of the vehicle got out on his own.

The almost 150 meter long bridge connects the west bank of the river Gudbrandsdalslaagen with the village of Tretten. “It’s completely devastating, completely unreal. It’s completely destroyed, everything has fallen,” local mayor Jon Halvor Midtmageli told Dabgladet newspaper. The Norwegian Automobile Federation stated that the bridge at Norway had been audited in 2021.

Atle Formo, who lives next to Tretten Bridge, said he heard “a loud crash. The whole house was shaking. I raised the blinds in the bedroom and saw a bridge in the river,” he told Norwegian television network TV2.
