Norway will in turn start vaccination against coronavirus at the age of 5 to 11 years and on a voluntary basis without having made a formal recommendation, as announced today by the Norwegian government.
The children from 12 to 15 years old, for whom only one dose of vaccine has been proposed so far, will now be able to get a second one, if their parents agree, the Ministry of Health also pointed out.
“Children are very rarely seriously ill (from covid) and so far there are limited cases of long-term side effects,” said Health Minister Ingvild Gerkol.
The vaccination proposal for this age group is particularly relevant for children with chronic illnesses, children living in families with vulnerable people or children living in countries where the epidemic is widespread and access to health services is limited.
Norway, where almost 90% of the adult population is vaccinated with at least two doses, is one of the countries that recommend vaccination at an early age.
