The strike in Norway’s energy sector has ended after the country’s government intervened, a union leader and the labor ministry said.
Offshore drilling workers in Norway went on strike today, which would cut oil and gas production, especially the latter, by nearly 60%, worsening the strained situation with flows in Europe due to the war in Ukraine.
However, as the head of the responsible trade union Lederne Audun Ingvartsen told Reuters, “The workers are returning to work as soon as possible. We are canceling the planned escalation”, and when asked if the strike was over he clarified: “Yes”.
The Ministry of Labor confirmed for its part that it exercised its right to intervene.
“When the conflict can have such dire consequences for the whole of Europe, I have no choice but to intervene in the conflict,” said Labor Minister Marte Mjoes Persen.
