In Norway, a mining ban may be introduced, as the increase in electricity consumption by miners does not allow the Scandinavian countries to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement.
The Norwegian government is considering a proposal to ban cryptocurrency mining put forward by two Swedish regulators. Told about this in
interview Euronews Norwegian politician Bjørn Arild Gram.
“While mining and the technology behind it have potential long-term benefits, it is difficult to justify the widespread use of renewable energy today,” said Björn Arild Gram.
According to him, Norway is considering all possible ways to solve the problems associated with cryptocurrency mining. In early November, Erik Thedéen, director of the Swedish Financial Conduct Authority, and Björn Risinger, director of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, said that the rise in energy consumption from mining cryptocurrencies threatens the environment. They called on the European Union to ban mining in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. Regulatory authorities in Norway are considering solutions and ideas that are proposed in Sweden.
Recall that after the cancellation of the tax subsidy on electricity in Norway, which was previously used by miners, the Canadian company Hive Blockchain Technologies sold its local mining company to the municipality of Narvik.
