Two people were killed and ten others were injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Oslo, according to Norwegian police.
The public broadcaster NRK and other Norwegian media outlets reported that the armed attack took place at the “London Pub”, a popular nightclub in the gay community in central Oslo.
NRK journalist Olaf Ronenberg, an eyewitness, said: “I saw a man coming in holding a bag. He pulled out a gun and started firing.”
Another eyewitness told NRK: “I was outside the London Pub when it happened. I noticed a shot and was hit by broken glass. More shots followed, so I took refuge inside and tried to take other people with me.”
At around 2 am (local time), Norwegian police announced that they had arrested a suspect, while the motive for the attack remains unclear.
The annual “pride parade” by the LGBTQI community of the Norwegian capital is scheduled to take place today in Oslo.
The images broadcast by the Norwegian networks show the echo of the armed attack on the nightclub, with ambulances and patrol cars rushing to the spot.
“A total of ten people received first aid from rescuers. Three people were seriously injured,” police chief Torre Barstad told Norwegian television.
Earlier, Oslo University Hospital said it had been put on alert to receive injured people.
