Not a megabyte more: Apple was greedy with memory in the iPhone 14

Between the iPhone 14 smartphones presented on September 7, you can count much more differences than between models of other generations. But there’s one thing that the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max have in common: RAM.

This year, Apple did not increase the amount of RAM in the Pro versions. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, like their predecessors in the face of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, are content with 6 GB of RAM. The two base models of the iPhone 14 received the same amount, here the increase compared to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini was 2 GB. The authors of the MacRumors portal found this information in the latest beta version of Xcode 14.

By the way, earlier insiders reported that the new iPhone 14, although they will receive the same amount of RAM, the type of “RAM” they will have is different. Allegedly, the base iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are equipped with an LPDDR4X type module, while the Pro versions received faster LPDDR5 memory. Whether this is actually the case remains to be seen.

It’s worth noting that it’s common for today’s flagship Android smartphones to have 10, 12, and even 16GB of RAM. But 6 GB of RAM now have many middle-class and even entry-level models. However, thanks to the legendary optimization of iOS, other things being equal, the iPhone requires less RAM than competitors on Android.
