Tabs in Notepad are one of the most anticipated features, and Microsoft itself admits it. The developers finally heard the fans and implemented this feature in the latest build for insiders (in version 11.2212.33.0).
Although the innovation is now only being tested and by the time it is released in the stable version it may acquire new features or undergo other changes, the tabs are already made “not for show”. It supports hotkeys and a smart feature – automatic title generation based on content. There is also a refreshable indicator of unsaved changes.
Since the updated Notepad is still in beta, it has bugs, and Microsoft knows about it – the developers report that some users may now have problems with certain keyboard shortcuts, and hint that there is room for improvement in the performance of the application.
