Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb advocate blockchain without cryptocurrencies

Economists Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb took up arms against cryptocurrencies, agreeing that they do not provide value for the storage industry, unlike blockchain technology.

Speaking at the CoinGeek conference, Roubini stated that cryptocurrencies are unreliable, unregulated and used for money laundering. Most of the crypto assets are used by terrorists, human traffickers, criminals, and tax evaders, Rubini said. Crypto assets do not carry any value, so they need to be excluded from the latest technologies used for decentralized data verification. Blockchain technology will be enough for this.

“Data is of great value, this is new oil. 99% of fintech applications have nothing to do with cryptocurrencies. People just need an open and reliable service to store their data, ”Roubini said.

Taleb agreed with Roubini’s view that decentralized data storage should be viewed as a separate phenomenon from cryptographic tokens. According to Taleb, criminals need cryptocurrencies, but for them “it no longer works.” The economist said that bitcoin is not at all what it is written about in his white paper.

The founder of the research firm NChain, Craig Wright, posing as the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, also took part in the conference, and decided to transfer the topic to Bitcoin SV (BSV). He stated that the BSV coin “was never created as a currency, it is digital money.” In addition, Wright confidently stated that within a few years, the Bitcoin SV blockchain will be able to make a billion transactions per second, and then a trillion per second.

The anonymous owner of the bitcoin.org site under the pseudonym Cobra
wrote on Twitter that Taleb says “strange things” and other bitcoin supporters called the conference a “clown”.

“Taleb has lost his mind. At the conference next week, he will be brainwashed even more. He will be fed, watered and entertained, and very soon he will say that Craig Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto, “wrote Cobra.

Rubini has long “disliked” cryptocurrencies and rejoices at the fall in the bitcoin rate. Taleb was previously friendly towards cryptoassets, but has recently shown hostility towards them. A few months ago, Taleb called Bitcoin “a pyramid that attracts more and more new victims.”
